Vocational Training
Eighteen year old Tolya suffers
from mild cerebral palsy and has spent most of his
life in a small flat with little education. He
came to Feodrovits as a shy and timid young man with
no idea how to communicate or integrate with other
people. Through the patient
teaching of Yuri who runs the vocational centre for
children with learning difficulties he has learnt many
of the processes in book binding. Laughs and jokes
with the other young adults and has learnt to travel
from the centre to home. Yuri has received state
awards for his outstanding work with such young people
but attributes much of the success of the centre to
the help of Love Russia who have supported them for
thirteen years. Love Russia helps with the basics but
has also implemented a ongoing programme of orders
for bed linen and children’s clothes made in
the sewing rooms, books for use in school and other
item. The materials and wages are paid for up front
making sure that the centre has plenty of work and
when finished are donated to Love Russia supported
orphanage/ Internats and hospitals. As one visiting
supporter commented “getting double the value
for the money spent”.
Love Russia has helped support similar schemes attached
to rural orphanage/internats to teach skills and provide
bedding and clothes for the children at their own and
other internats.
