Genesis Project
Love Russia was horrified that according to Russian
Federation statistics only nine out of every hundred
children that they had been helping over the years
might integrate successfully into society.
Within two years forty per cent
are in prison, forty percent addicted to alcohol
or drugs and eleven percent suicide.
Genesis
was born out of a need to do something. Love
Russia offers orphans the opportunity to be supported
through college to learn skills and further their education
to help them get good jobs. Each student has
a supervisor who meets with them regularly and supports
them who also speaks with their college tutors to see
if they need extra help with their studies. The
supervisors meet with Love Russia’s CEO every
six weeks together with any students they have concerns
for. Every month the students receive a bursary
to help them with their living expenses as long as
they keep to their agreement not to become involved
in drugs or crime and to attend ninety five percent
of their classes. Funding for each student together
with a percentage of admin costs is £50 per month.
Genesis has been running since 2001 and the number
of students has risen from eight in the first year
to ninety in 2007 and a small number have now gone
on to university
To date ninety-five per cent of Genesis students
have integrated into society in their first two years
outside the orphanage.
There is now a new leaflet about the Genesis project. To request a copy please contact the Love Russia office.
