Schools
Sveta found herself an orphan
as she entered her teens when her step father killed
her mother then turned the gun on to himself. Kind neighbours took her
in and she continued to go to her local school. Her
best friend came from a children’s home for orphans
and dysfunctional families nearby.
Lydia attends a deaf school which is one of the best in Russia. They still suffer
the same difficulties of not having enough special equipment and using extremely
old premises.
Facts: Although the standard of teaching in Russia schools is
generally high the staff are hampered by a lack of quality equipment and poor
salaries. In some
areas orphans and children from dysfunctional families may live in a children’s
home and attend the ordinary schools nearby.
Love Russia has helped in these cases by providing equipment and books especially
for English classes and religious education. Skill sharing in environmental education
by Dr Simon Young in one region has helped students and schools to achieve awards
for their work and the working model he has introduced is now being adopted elsewhere.
Dr Young has committed to continuing this work until 2009.The schools for the deaf in one town have received continuous
help from Love Russia over a number of years with specialist
equipment, skill sharing and fifty/fifty projects to
upgrade premises.
