Christmas Gift ideas to help Love Russia’s work

Many people have asked about giving gifts to Love Russia at Christmas. Below are some ideas. When you buy a gift for yourself or someone else we will send you a card explaining the gift that you can slip into a Christmas card. To buy any of the gifts below please contact the Love Russia office.

£6 will buy a month’s supply of disposable nappies for a baby or young child in one of the orphanages helped by Love Russia. Disposable nappies mean that the children are more comfortable and happier and their carers have time to see to all their needs and play with them.

£14 will pay to keep a place in a Priyut (Rescue Shelter) open for one month. Priyuts are temporary homes for children found alone where they can stay until they are reunited with their families or, if that is not possible, found a permanent place in an orphanage.

£15 buys a pair of boots for a child which are good enough to cope with the Russian winter. Temperatures regularly drop below -20°C and can reach as low as -40°C. Well-made fur-lined boots are essential in such conditions.

£25 buys a winter coat for a child. As with boots a good coat is essential to cope with the winter temperatures encountered in Russia.

£50 pays for a place on the Genesis scheme for one month. The Love Russia Genesis scheme helps students from poor or dysfunctional families who are not eligible for additional help from the state and who struggle to attend college and gain the qualifications needed to get a job without extra help.

Well over 100 people go on Love Russia Summer Camps every year and many of them are students who struggle to raise the money to go. In 2009 every one who goes on camp needs to pay £800 to cover the costs of travel and accommodation. If you would like to help towards the cost of someone going on camp please contact the Love Russia office.
