ALEX COOKECEO & International Director
As a young man Alex worked within the motor racing industry developing and building racing cars. Eventually he turned to rallying and became an international rally driver. He is married to Jacqui, who works alongside him at Love Russia. They have four married sons and a son who died as a teenager. Both really enjoy spending time with their grandsons, Sam and Ryan.
Years of travelling across the globe have given Alex an appreciation of the inequalities of life throughout the world and with the support of Jacqui he was pleased to take on the challenge of developing the work of a small Christian charity, Love Russia, nine years ago. Since then the charity has trebled in size and has a significant impact on the lives of more than three thousand children housed in supported projects. Alex travels to Russia every six weeks to monitor the projects, to check that money previously given has been correctly spent and provide “drip-feed” funding for the next six weeks. Alex has developed a “50/50” model of funding with the relevant authorities, which together with receipts and photographic evidence, is key to the high level of accountability and trust that the charity receives in Russia. Although the work has grown enormously in the past fifteen years Love Russia only employs two full-time and four part-time members of staff in the UK – a remarkable achievement.
In between trips to Russia Alex spends much of his time visiting churches, schools, companies, rotary and other groups to give talks and multimedia presentations about the work in Russia throughout the week and is in great demand for Sunday services. The development of Love Russia Summer Camps and Challenge Projects is the fulfilment of a vision to show the love of Jesus to the children in a fun way.
Alex’s diary fills quickly as many groups want him to return time and again so if you would like him to come and speak to your group you will need to book him well in advance.

jacqui cooke

Jacqui Cooke – Deputy Executive Officer
Jacqui’s early working years were spent in the publishing and newspaper industry. She has worked in South Africa as well as UK and has been able to bring some of those skills to the work of Love Russia. Although not working full time when her five children were young she became involved in a national voluntary organisation eventually becoming the National Organiser. Married to Alex they have worked closely alongside each other for many years enjoying ministering together on the Isle of Wight.
Jacqui initially ‘filled in’ at Love Russia as the Office Administrator after relocating the office but was asked by the trustees to join the staff full time. Her work has developed through the years as she has been able to delegate the general admin of the office and has a keen interest in developing and speaking about the Yerlatma projects and Summer Camps in Russia.  One of Jacqui and Alex’s own sons had learning difficulties and they feel a special affinity with the children who have been categorised in Russia as uneducable and who are living in residential homes without family support.Jacqui visits Russia three to four times a year in order to support and keep up to date with developments in Russia and also accompanies Alex on ‘long haul’ speaking tours in the UK and America welcoming opportunities to speak.  At other times she oversees the office, develops campaigns with the help of Love Russia’s part time and volunteer staff and oversees the newsletters and publicity that supporters receive.
